You don’t need to do anything.

No API keys. No terminal commands. No configuration files. You sign up, and Alfred handles the rest — from provisioning your dedicated server to reading your first hundred days of email to writing your welcome briefing. The entire onboarding takes about ten minutes of your time. Alfred works for hours behind the scenes.
Alfred Black is a zero-config platform. Every new member gets a dedicated VPS (Hetzner cx53, 32GB RAM) provisioned automatically. You never touch infrastructure.

1

Sign up with Google

Go to alfred.black and click Sign up with Google. Alfred uses Google OAuth to authenticate you and request access to your Gmail. The consent screen will ask for email read permissions — this is how Alfred begins learning about your world. No invite codes. No waitlists. One click.
2

Alfred provisions your dedicated instance

The moment you sign up, Alfred begins spinning up a dedicated VPS just for you. The dashboard shows a “Preparing your Alfred” animation while this happens — typically five to ten minutes.
You can watch the provisioning progress in real time. Every Alfred instance is isolated — your data never shares a server with anyone else’s.
Behind the scenes: a Hetzner cx53 with 32GB of RAM is being configured, your vault database is being created, and your specialist workers are being initialised.
3

The 100-day Gmail backfill begins

Once your instance is live, Alfred starts reading your Gmail — going back 100 days. This is not a shallow scan. Alfred fetches full email content and extracts facts from every message, day by day.The dashboard shows your progress:
Day 34 of 100 — 1,247 facts discovered
People, organisations, projects, decisions, commitments, deadlines — Alfred is building a structured understanding of your life from the raw material of your inbox.
The backfill runs in the background. You do not need to keep the dashboard open. Alfred will keep working whether you watch or not.
4

Pattern analysis and personalisation

As the backfill completes, Alfred’s specialists begin deeper work:
  • Pattern analysis — identifying recurring themes, relationships, and rhythms in your communication
  • Personalisation — generating your USER.md (who you are, what you care about) and SOUL.md (how Alfred should speak to you, what tone fits)
  • Automation suggestions — spotting opportunities where Alfred can handle things without being asked
  • First Brief composition — drafting your butler-quality welcome letter
5

Fact verification

After patterns and personalisation complete, Alfred pauses before sharing its first observations. A fact verification card appears on screen:
“Sir, before I share my first observations, I want to ensure I have the basics right…”
Alfred displays 8–12 key identity facts it extracted from your email — your name, age, location, partner, children, company, job title, and other core details. Each fact is editable inline — click any item to correct it.
Take a moment to review each fact. Corrections are fed directly into brief generation, ensuring Alfred never gets your identity basics wrong. This is the last step before your First Brief — it’s worth getting right.
Once you confirm, Alfred incorporates your corrections and begins composing your personalised welcome briefing.
6

Your First Brief appears

When Alfred is ready, your First Brief appears on screen. This is not a system notification or a generic welcome message. It is a personal letter — written by Alfred, about you, based on everything just learned from your email. It will mention people by name. It will reference real projects. It will surface something you forgot about. This is Alfred introducing itself by demonstrating that it already knows you.
The First Brief is the moment most members realise this is different from anything they have used before. Take a moment to read it properly.
7

Continue to your Dashboard

Click Continue to Dashboard to enter your Alfred. The first thing you see is the Vault Nebula — a real-time visualisation of your knowledge graph. People, organisations, projects, and facts, all connected and floating in space.Your Gmail stream is now active, pulling new email every five minutes. Your vault will grow continuously from here.
8

Add more integrations

From the Integrations page, you can connect additional sources:
  • Notion — paste your API token and Alfred begins indexing your workspace
  • Omi — pair your wearable device for ambient audio capture and real-time conversation transcription
  • More coming — each integration adds a new stream of facts flowing into your vault
Every new source deepens Alfred’s understanding. The more Alfred knows, the more Alfred can do.

What just happened?

In roughly ten minutes of your time, Alfred:
  1. Provisioned a dedicated server for you
  2. Read 100 days of your email
  3. Extracted thousands of structured facts
  4. Built a knowledge graph of your world
  5. Analysed your patterns and relationships
  6. Wrote you a personalised welcome briefing
  7. Activated a real-time Gmail stream
  8. Started working — permanently
You didn’t configure anything. You didn’t write a single API call. You signed up, and Alfred did the rest.
